Mission Statement
Since the pandemic, the number of people struggling with food insecurity has skyrocketed to 1.5 million people in the Bay Area alone. Many of these families don't qualify for food stamps or governmental aid and struggle to put food on their table. Through Fruits of Labor programs, events, and fundraisers, Fruits of Labor works to alleviate the food insecurity crisis in the Bay Area.
WAYS WE HELP
FOOD DONATIONS
Working in close partnership with the San Fransisco-Marin Food Distribution center, everything we gather from donors goes to the center. The SF-Marin Food Distribution center provides free weekly groceries, emergency food, food stamps, and even rehab centers and senior homes in the community. They depend on donations such as the fresh fruit we gather to continue supporting these families and organizations.
IMPACT
1.5 million people suffer from food insecurity in the Bay Area. This means one in ten residents of the Bay Area is currently going hungry. Food insecurity rates have gone up by 80% since pre-pandemic times, 65% of these families don't qualify for food stamps, and are struggling to provide for themselves and their families. Since it's creation, Fruits of Labor has donated over three thousand pounds of fresh and free fruit to the San Fransisco-Marin Food Distribution center in San Rafael. In doing so, we are providing fresh produce to the families that depend on food assistance to survive. The more that we are able to preserve the resources that we have access to the more we can make a difference in someone's lives.
Listen to our Wharton Podcast!
I had the amazing privilege to be interviewed for the University of Pennsylvania's Future of the Business World podcast a couple of weeks ago, and it was just posted! In the podcast, I talk about why I decided to create Fruits of Labor, food insecurity, social change in Marin, and how I run the nonprofit!
