GLEANING

As the largest agricultural state in America, 40% of the 27.6 million acres of California that are taken up by agriculture are cropland. Many of these farms are within a two hundred mile radius of the Bay Area

Logistics

Farms' Role

U-pick and profit-based agricultural farms alike that are interested in participating in the gleaning program save the fruit that isn't picked, sold, or distributed for the discussed day that volunteers can pick them up.

Volunteers

Volunteers use personal vehicles to transport the bounty from farms directly to food banks in the community and even bring their own containers upon request.

Travel Radius

Farms range as far as Central Valley to Sonoma to Santa Clara County.
